Where it all began

The McAleer Feis which was the vision of Kathleen McAleer BG. Kathleen saw the need here in Melbourne to give all dancers preparing for the State and National Championships, another opportunity to attend a competition. In 1998, the competition was held in one short day with less than 60 competitors entered. The McAleer Open Championship, as it known as today has numbers exceeding 300 competitors from all over Australia & Abroad, and today finds itself in this amazing theatre where the tradition continues.

The Championship today

The McAleer Open Championship brings together over 300 performers and their families from all over Australia and New Zealand. Considered as one of the premium Irish Dance Competitions in Australians, it is seen as a must attend event on the Australian Irish Dancing calendar. Previous McAleer Championships have attracted audiences of 300-500 spectators per session, we see this year’s championship as a great opportunity to showcase your business to the wider Irish dance community.
